Wear a flower in your hair while listening to Toad online...

Toad is performing at San Francisco radio station Live 105's BFD concert June 13th, and the concert will be broadcast live over the Internet. The webpage for the concert says the event begins at 12 noon Pacific Time, but I have a report of someone with tickets that say 3 p.m. PT.

The Cure, Erasure, Social Distortion, Echo & The Bunnymen, Blur, Space, Third Eye Blind, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Dick Dale, and others to be announced will share the stage with the band.

You'll need Streamworks, a streaming audio program that is like RealAudio, but without the market share. Check out Streamworks's page or the concerts' website on how to get this set up on your computer and info on what the software and hardware requirements are.

"Coil" cracks Billboard Top 20

In its first week in release, Toad's latest album, "Coil" entered the Billboard Top 200 albums at #19. The band has blessed with a number of successes, recently, including heavy airplay of Coil's first single, "Come Down." The song was #11 on RadioAirplay's NOW radio chart, which measures how often songs are being played on Modern Rock and Top 40 stations nationwide.

The band was also recently honored by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) at its Pop Awards ceremony for having one of the past year's most performed songs, "Good Intentions."

Putting the icing on the cake have been a number of well-received listener appreciation concerts and an appearance on the Late Show with David Letterman on May 21. The band will soon be joining the H.O.R.D.E. Festival. Tickets to most of the dates are already on sale. See www.hordefestval.com for more info.

Ticketmaster blocks online sale of Toad tix!

A number of companies have ignored the Internet's potential as a new market. Don't count Ticketmaster among them. The concert ticketing company, which already holds a virtual monopoly on sales of concert tickets nationwide, gave notice this week that it intends to extend its monopoly to sales of tickets over the World Wide Web when it blocked the sale of several hundred tickets to Toad concerts around the country. The band had planned to sell up to 100 tickets online to each of the shows on a tour throughout late May and early July before their efforts were blocked by Ticketmaster. Tickets were to be made available through TicketWeb, a two-year old company that only began selling tickets nationwide last year. Only the shows in Denver and Washington, DC are still available through TicketWeb.

See what the band's manager has to say about the dispute, as well as the detailed information about the tour (what stores will be giving away tickets?) by going here.

"Come Down," the first single from Toad's forthcoming album "Coil" is now playing on cable music network VH1. Your chances of catching the video are apparently best during the "Crossroads" program. Check local listings for showtimes. No word on when the video will make it to eMpTyV.

Toad to appear on Modern Rock Live, Late Show with David Letterman

Toad's promotional push for their latest album, "Coil," (in stores May 20) is underway. The band will be featured on Modern Rock Live on Sunday May 18. Check the list of stations to see whether a radio station in your area carries Modern Rock Live. MRL features interviews, call-in questions and live performance. Those of you in the Los Angeles area should be listening to KROQ for a chance to be a part of MRL's 100-person studio audience.

The day after Coil's release, May 21, Toad will appear on the Late Show with David Letterman. Check your local TV listings for showtimes.

In other news, the band's manager has announced that "Come Down," the first single off Coil, will not be available in record stores as a single. The song is featured on a special CD entitled "House of Toad" sent to radio stations around the country. If your favorite local station isn't playing the song, call in and request it. :-)

"Coil" release pushed back again...this time to May 20

Here's the message from Toad's manager posted to the fans' Internet mailing list March 12.

The release date for _Coil_ is (and will likely remain) May 20th. The songs, in order are Whatever I Fear, Come Down, Rings, Dam Would Break, Desire, Don't Fade, Little Man Big Man, Throw It All Away, Amnesia, Little Buddha, Crazy Life, All Things In Time. 12 songs.

Toad are exploring, through their booking agency CAA, the possibility of doing some college concerts in mid- to late-April. If the offers are sufficient in size, and the routing makes sense, then 10 or so shows may be done. If so, the news will be posted here first with all the details at the "houseoftoad."

The "houseoftoad" is about to be completely revamped with new graphics and features that will allow the band to update it without the need for a html-writing intermediary. This will mean more fresh news and tour date info more often.

Release date for new Toad album pushed back AGAIN

This message was sent to the toad mailing list on Feb. 27 by the band's manager:

"Coil" release date has been moved to May 6th by Columbia in order to facillitate better set-up of the CD. They seem to really like it. A "greatest hits" CD (remember Fall Down+?) is being made which will also contain "Come Down," the first single. It will go out to radio and retail only on or about March 21st. The cover art for "Coil" is being done by Dave McKean (sp?) who is best known to me for his illustration work on the Sandman graphic novels. Gigs in Americas biggest cities still likely in May.

Release date for new Toad album pushed back

I just got some mail from Toad's manager, Chris Blake (who's been great about keeping the list members informed since Gregg started the first list at Silverplatter). Anyway, it turns out that the release date of Toad's latest studio album, "Coil," has indeed been pushed back two weeks to April 29. As for some of the other questions that have been circulating on the list, Chris said the first single will likely be "Come Down" or "Whatever I Fear" and will be released to radio in early April. As for the inevitable tour in support of the new album, Chris said a brief US tour ("maybe 10 cities") will follow in May "followed by extensive touring on a 'package' in summer." I'm not sure what that 'package' will be or whether the tour will include any overseas dates. I'll try to get back to you on that. Either way, you'll be happy to know that Chris said there will be a college tour in the fall. This is starting to sound a lot like the tour that followed "Dulcinea." :-)

Oh, and back to the album -- Chris said "Coil" is a 12-song disc and well worth the wait.
