Toad wraps up Coil tour, plans new CD

The Coil tour is just about over, with the last show to be a New Year's Bash at the House of Blues in Chicago. Check out WTMX's homepage -- they're hosting the $75-a-ticket show.

After a little holiday rest and relaxation, the guys plan to cut a new album early next year, to be released as early as Fall 98. Word is that the new album will be "experimental."

Lastly, for those of you who missed it, Toad covered the Beatles' "Hey Bulldog" on the "I Know What You Did Last Summer" soundtrack.

New Toad song to be on a Surfrider Foundation compilation CD

The word from Toad manager Chris Blake is that an unreleased cut from the "Coil" recording sessions will be on a Surfrider Foundation compilation entitled "M.O.M. 2" due out this summer. The track is titled "Acid." More info when I have it.

Survey says...

Toad fans recently voted on the band's fan Internet mailinglist on their favorite song. Here are the results from 163 votes:

Given the popularity of "Come Down" it would seem other songs off the album have a decent chance of becoming radio hits -- despite its low ranking in this vote, the song received heavy play on many modern rock stations and found its way on to a number of top 40 stations as well.

Speaking of which, Whatever I Fear, the second most popular song in the survey, will be the next single. There are indications that "Dam Would Break" will be the third single from Coil.

On the subject of Singles

Chris said not to expect to see Toad singles from Coil in stores. As some of you may have noticed, it has become harder and harder to find singles. "Come Down," the first single off Coil, was not released as a single. Blake says that is because many band managers, himself included, feel that sales of singles cut into album sales.
